๐Ÿฏ Canna-Butter Guide

The Essential Base Recipe for Edibles (The Rottie's Secret)

๐Ÿ”ฅ Step 1: Decarboxylation (The Activation)

You cannot simply eat raw cannabis flower and expect to get high. The THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) in the raw plant must be converted into active THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) using heatโ€”a process called **decarboxylation**.

Decarb Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 240°F (115°C). Temperature control is critical!
  2. Break your dried cannabis flower into small pieces (do not grind to a fine powder). Spread evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes.
  4. Remove from oven and let cool completely. The flower will be darker and dryโ€”this means it's ready!

DOSE: Start with 7 grams (1/4 oz) of flower per 1 cup (2 sticks) of butter.

๐Ÿงˆ Step 2: The Infusion (Canna-Butter)

Fats (like butter or coconut oil) are essential because THC is fat-soluble. The fat extracts the activated THC efficiently.

Infusion Instructions:

  1. In a double boiler or slow cooker, melt 1 cup (2 sticks) of butter and add 1 cup of water (the water helps prevent scorching).
  2. Stir in your decarboxylated cannabis and mix well.
  3. Maintain a temperature between 160°F and 200°F (70°C to 93°C). Do not exceed 200°F.
  4. Simmer gently for 3 to 4 hours, stirring occasionally. The mixture should never boil.
  5. Remove from heat and strain the liquid through a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer into a container. Squeeze the cloth gently to extract all the butter. Discard the leftover plant matter.
  6. Place the container in the refrigerator to cool overnight. The butter will solidify on top of the water.

โ„๏ธ Step 3: Finishing and Storage

Once cooled, the infused butter will form a solid layer on the surface. You can lift it out and discard the murky water underneath. The butter is now ready for use in any recipe that calls for butter (cookies, brownies, sauces, toast, etc.)!

Rottie's Pro Tip: Start with a very small serving, especially with a new batch. Edibles can take 1โ€“3 hours to kick in, and you can always eat more, but you can't eat less!
