This is the final countdown! The flowering stage is about moving from aggressive growth to aggressive bud production. Light cycles, environmental control, and a nutrient shift are non-negotiable for a potent harvest.
For photoperiod strains, switching the light cycle triggers flowering.
The plant will go through a "Flowering Stretch" in the first 2-3 weeks, often doubling or even tripling in size. Use this time to perform any final LST or super cropping.
During flower, the plant's nutrient demands shift dramatically from Nitrogen (N) to Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K).
Nutrients should be a bridge between Veg and Flower. Continue a low amount of N while increasing P and K. This supports the stretch without causing nutrient lockout later.
This is when the buds swell rapidly. Maximize P and K. Nitrogen should be reduced significantly to zero, as high N during bulk can lead to harsh-tasting final product and airy buds.
Taper off all nutrients completely. See Section 3 for flushing details.
Flushing (feeding only pH-balanced water) removes stored salts and excess nutrients from the plant tissue. This allows the plant to use up its remaining internal food, resulting in a cleaner, smoother smoke/vape.
The pistils (white hairs) turning orange is a general indicator, but trichome color is the definitive sign of potency and peak maturity. You need a jeweler's loupe or a digital microscope (30x magnification or higher) to check.
| Trichome Look | Potency Level |
|---|---|
| Clear | Low: THC still developing. |
| Milky/Cloudy | Peak: Highest THC content (Cerebral/Energetic effect). |
| Amber | Mature: THC is converting to CBN (Relaxing/Couch-lock effect). |
